Federal Tax Filing Deadline Postponed to May 17

Mar 18, 2021 |

Yesterday, the Treasury Department and the IRS announced that the federal tax filing deadline for individuals for the 2020 tax year has been extended to May 17, 2021.

This extended deadline does not apply to first-quarter estimated tax payments that are due on April 15, 2021. Those payments are still due on April 15.

The postponement of the federal tax filing deadline only applies to individual federal income tax returns. Unless a state issues future guidance, the deadline for the state tax return and payment remains unchanged.

We will provide additional information on future changes as they become known.
